One day, the Fox-cunning-eyed-fluffy-tail sneaked slowly into the farmstead and dragged away the fat, pockmarked Cockerel.
Then a terrible commotion arose, and everyone rushed in pursuit of the thief. The Fox had to run away as fast as she could, but she did not let the Cockerel out of her teeth.
But the Red-combed-Loud-Voice Cockerel didn’t want to get into the Fox’s dinner at all. And while she ran to her hole, he kept thinking and figuring out how he could force the Thief Fox to unclench her teeth. So he spoke to her so affectionately, so insinuatingly:
- Well, people are stupid that they want to catch you, Fox! How can they possibly keep up with you?
The fox liked such speeches: after all, she was not only cunning, but also vain. And the Cockerel-red-comb-sweet-voice continued:
“Still, even though they won’t catch you, it’s probably not so pleasant when they’re chasing you and even shouting: “Stop the thief!” Stop the thief! If I were you, I would shout to them myself: “This is my cockerel, and not the one that was stolen!” And people will fall behind, and you will calmly run home.
Here the Fox could not stand it, unclenched her teeth, lifted her head up and shouted:
- This is my cockerel!
And the Red-combed-Cunning-Voice Cockerel didn’t waste any time and ran away. It was only him that Lisa saw.
