Nasreddin Afandi went to the bai's wedding in an old and simple robe. He was not allowed into the room where the bais and mullahs were sitting, but was seated along with other poor people on the edge of the entrance terrace. The noble guests were served a variety of delicious dishes, but the poor were served only scraps.
Without touching this food, Afandi left the wedding, but soon returned in a silk robe with a wide braid around the collar. The turban on his head was wrapped like a mullah's.
The servants respectfully led Afandi to the owner of the house, and he, with the words: “Please, please,” seated the guest in a place of honor next to the imam. Before anyone else, a large dish of pilaf with chicken was placed in front of Afandi.
The owner and imam respectfully addressed Afandi:
- Please, sir, eat!
Afandi stuck the sleeve of his new robe into the pilaf and did not remove his hand.
- What does it mean? — asked the surprised imam. “Why do you stain your expensive robe with grease?”
- This pilaf and all the respect shown to me belongs only to my silk robe, it should eat pilaf! When I came here an hour ago in an old robe, no one paid attention to me and I was served only scraps!
