Once upon a time, the Indian sage Narada was walking to a place of pilgrimage - to the temple of the god Vishnu. One childless family sheltered him for the night. The next morning the owner turned to Narada with a request: “You are going to the Vishnu temple. Ask Him to send us a child.”
Narada asked God:
- Have mercy on this man and give him a child.
God responded in a tone that did not allow further discussion:
“This man is not destined to have a child.”
Narada finished praying and returned home.
Five years later, Narada again made a pilgrimage and again spent the night with hospitable hosts. This time he saw two small children playing at the threshold of the hut.
-Whose children are these? - asked Narada.
“Mine,” answered the owner.
Narada wanted to know the whole story, and the man said:
“Five years ago, right after you left, a sannyasin came to our village. He spent the night in our house, and in the morning, before leaving, he blessed me and my wife... And here are the fruits of his blessing.”
Having reached the temple, Narada immediately addressed God:
“You told me that man was not destined to have children.” Today he has two of them!
God laughed when he heard these words.
“This must be the work of a saint,” He answered. — Saints have the right to change fate!
