One day Nasreddin quarreled with the abbot of the monastery where he then lived. Soon after, a bag of rice went missing from the pantry. The abbot ordered everyone to line up in the monastery courtyard. When everyone had gathered, he said that the thief had grains of rice stuck in his beard. “This is an old way of making the culprit touch his beard involuntarily,” thought the real thief and continued to stand motionless.
Nasreddin thought: “The abbot is ready to do anything to take revenge on me, he probably deliberately poured rice on my beard,” and tried to quietly brush off the rice.
As soon as his fingers touched his beard, he realized that everyone was looking at him.
“I knew that sooner or later he would catch me!” - Nasreddin said.
