One day a man came to the Sufi Master and asked permission to study with him.
“Okay,” said the Master, “but what prompted you to do this? Maybe there was a sign for you? Some kind of revelation from above?” “No, there was no sign,” the man replied. - “I just want to learn from you.”
The master said: “Then go outside and stand there for half an hour. Maybe a sign will appear to you.”
The man went out into the street. It was raining and he quickly got wet to the skin. Passers-by huddled under the walls, watching in surprise the strange stranger who stood in the middle of the street in the rain, as if he had nothing better to do.
Half an hour later, when the man had already begun to boil from anger and disappointment, the Master called him inside and asked: “Well, how? Did you have a revelation?”
"What a revelation!" - the man shouted angrily. - “I just stood on the street and got wet like a fool!”
“Why do you say that you did not have a revelation?” - asked the Master. - “You understand that you are a fool. That’s enough; we can start classes.”
