Resurrection of Osiris

Resurrection of Osiris

When Horus became an adult youth, he entered into battle with Set. During the battle, Seth managed to tear out Horus's eye. Set cut the eye into 64 pieces and scattered them throughout Egypt.

Thoth came to the aid of the Choir. He found 63 parts of the severed eye, fused them and returned the young man his healed Eye - the Eye of Wadget.

There are many conflicting versions of this myth. Sometimes Set returns the torn Eye voluntarily, sometimes the Eye is taken back by Horus himself, sometimes the object of the struggle is not the Eye of Horus, but the Eye of Ra - the Solar Eye.

Having received the Eye back, the Horus went to the mummy of Osiris and gave the dead Osiri^ to swallow the Eye. And Osiris rose again.

A great event has happened! But Osiris could not remain on earth. He had to go to the Duat and become the king of the other world, to rule there, as he ruled in Egypt when he inherited the throne of Geb.

Before retiring to the Duat forever, Osiris put his son to the test to make sure that Horus was ready to fight the powerful Set.

- Which of the actions, in your opinion, is the most noble? - Osiris asked his son.

“To help an innocent victim,” answered the Chorus without hesitation.

- Which of the animals participating in the battle do you consider the most useful? - Osiris asked the second question.

“The most useful animal is a horse,” said Horus.

- Why a horse? - Osiris was surprised. - Why didn’t you name a lion, but a horse? After all, the most powerful of animals is the lion.

“The one who defends himself needs a lion,” answered the Chorus contemptuously. - And the horse chases the fleeing one.

Pleased with his son's answer, Osiris exclaimed:

- Truly, you are ready for battle! Go and defeat Seth.

These were the last words of the great god spoken by him on earth. Having uttered them, he withdrew forever into the Duat.

He died and rose again - and since then, like him, every dead Egyptian is resurrected in the Afterlife if his body is mummified and preserved, as Isis once preserved the body of Osiris from decay.

And every spring, like Osiris, nature resurrects.
