“Put away the broom,” the rabbi told her, “otherwise my Hasidim will think that during the farewell to Shabbat it must be at the table.”
Many years have passed since then. The old rebbe died long ago. But Hasidim still bring a broom to the Shabbat table every Saturday and take it back a minute later.
