The dogs that guard flocks of sheep in the mountains are very fierce and have a terrifying appearance. Therefore, passers-by prefer to stay away from them. It so happened that one man did not notice that a herd was grazing in the ravine. And when I saw the sheep, it was already too late. A pack of angry dogs was rushing towards him, scattering in a semicircle. It was already too late to run away, and the traveler simply sat down on the ground out of confusion, deciding that whatever would happen. But the dogs, having reached their goal, completely unexpectedly for this man, did not rush at him, but sat down around him at a short distance and did not attack, although they were furious. As soon as the traveler moved, the dogs were ready to rush at him, so he chose not to move. Then the shepherds arrived, drove the dogs away, and were surprised that this man was unharmed. “You did the right thing by sitting and not moving. That’s the only reason he remained safe,” the shepherds told him, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation, because, having been tested, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12). monk Simeon of Athos Mysterious conversations or hidden truths
