There lived an old man with his daughter.
The old man was thinking about marrying off his daughter, but the daughter didn’t want to marry anyone. There were all kinds of suitors - rich, poor, young, old, Eskimos, Chukchi and Koryaks, but the girl drove everyone out of her sight. The old man said that he was old, he needed to retire and that his daughter needed a husband, otherwise who would feed him in his old age, but the daughter did not want to get married, the Old Man got angry and drove his daughter away. The daughter went to the seashore and began to cry bitterly. Suddenly she sees - far, far out into the sea, a whale has thrown out a huge fountain and is quickly swimming to the shore. A whale swam up, surfaced, and it turned out that it was blue. The whale went to the shore, opened its mouth, and a handsome guy came out.
“That’s the kind of guy I would go for!” – the girl thought. A guy approached her and asked:
-What are you crying about?
“My father tells me to get married, but I don’t want to!”
The fellow took the girl by the hand, and they walked along the shore and stayed together all day. Evening came, they returned to the whale. The young man hugged the girl, kissed her, went into the whale’s mouth, and the whale disappeared into the sea, and the girl returned home.
She lives with her father in a yaranga, and the father sees that his daughter is getting fatter and fatter. So he says one day:
- How is this so? You didn’t want to marry anyone, but you’ll soon bring a child! Get away from me, I'm ashamed to look at people!
The girl went to the seashore and cried.
She sees a large fountain on the sea, and again a blue whale surfaced off the shore, opened its mouth, and a fine fellow came out.
-What are you crying about now? - asks the young man.
- How can I not cry? My father kicked me out, take me with you.
– I am a sea person, I breathe different air. I can't take you. Now, when you give birth to a child, then I will help you!
The girl sat on the seashore for a long time, cried, and then came home and gave birth to a little whale. She thought and thought about what to do, and released the whale into the lake. A small whale splashes and frolics. The mother will take him, breastfeed him, and he will slip out of her hands and again - he will fall into the water!
The father sees that his daughter has become thin and asks:
- Where is your child?
– Did I get married? I don't have a child! The father began to keep an eye on his daughter, but she needed to feed her whale son. The son calls his mother, hits the water with his tail near the shore and lets out fountains with a call, like a blue whale.
The girl is afraid that people will kill her son.
She went to the seashore, and a blue whale stood near the shore. A guy came out of the whale and... said:
- I came for my son. I will provide for you and your father for the rest of your life.
- What about me?
- And you get married!
The girl gave away her son, and she herself said to the old father:
- Well, father, now I agree to get married. Her father tried to get her married as quickly as possible before she changed her mind.
Soon the girl went to the seashore, and there lay a large whale. She was afraid that her husband had been killed, and did not eat his meat... Suddenly she looked - a blue whale was standing near the shore, a young man was walking along the shore.
- Why don't you eat my whale? he asked.
- I thought it was you.
“Don’t be afraid, I’m sending you whales with straight whiskers, and if they have curled whiskers, then that means the hunters have overtaken me too!”
