“Let my serpents and my enemies know,” declared the god of gods, “that although I am moving away, I still shine above them.” You, Geb, will now be the ruler on earth!
Thus ended the era of the earthly reign of Ra-Horakhte. The era of Geb's reign has begun.
There is another myth that says that Ra abdicated the throne in favor of Tog, but Thoth did not agree to reign alone, and then the gods divided power: Ra and Thoth succeed each other on the throne, so the time of day changes.
In heaven, Ra said to the gods: “Call me the god Thoth!”
And they brought him in immediately. The Majesty of this god (Ra) said to Thoth: “Be in heaven instead of me while I shine for the blessed in the Duat (that is, while I stay at night in the Underworld and light a candle there for the dead). May you be my deputy instead of me, and they will call you: “Thoth, Deputy of Ra.”
