Prophetic dream

On the Prague bridge a soldier stood on guard and sees a poorly dressed peasant walking back and forth across the bridge and looking at everyone he meets.

The soldier asks:

- What are you looking for, good man, or are you waiting for someone?

The peasant answers him in a sad voice:

“Well, soldier, I had a strange dream last night.” It was as if they took me out to this very bridge in the morning and told me to walk until I found my happiness. I’ve been walking here since dawn, but there’s no happiness.

The soldier grinned and said:

- Don’t vouch for sleep, the day will rise and the dreams will dissipate with fog. I also had a dream, as if I came to a poor hut, near the hut there was a courtyard, in the courtyard there was a pear tree growing. The owner came out of the hut, gave me a saw, pointed to the pear and ordered me to cut it down with the words: “If you knock down the pear, you will find treasure under it!”

Then the peasant realized that the soldier had seen in a dream his own hut and a pear tree in the yard. He didn’t say anything to the soldier on guard, returned home and confessed everything that he had heard from the soldier to his wife and called her to cut the pear tree. When the pear fell, to their great surprise, they found a rich treasure in a hollow near the ground.

The poor man took the treasure, built a large, strong house on the site of the old hut, and painted the whole story on the house about how he looked for the treasure. And in gratitude, he gave his only daughter in marriage to the serviceman.
