Among all our young men, Pero Medvedich, who gave birth to a bear, could boast of strength, and Korolevich Marko was famous for his cunning undertakings. One day Pero Medvedich, Korolevich Marko and Lyutida Bogdan got together and went to wander around the world. They look askance at each other, but neither dares to attack the other. They wandered around like that for a long time and finally wanted to eat.
Pero Medvedich caught a buffalo, killed and skinned it, and then roasted it on a spit. When they were full, they became thirsty.
“Go, Marco,” says Pero, “and bring water in this skin, there is a well down there, under the steep slope.”
It was difficult for Marco, but what can you do! He took the skin and barely dragged it to the well.
“What should I do now?” he thought. “I almost gave up the ghost while I was carrying the skin empty, and now I have to drag it up the mountain with water.”
I thought and thought and came up with an idea. I took a hoe and started digging around the well.
He digs and digs, but they won’t wait for him at the top.
“I’ll go see what he’s doing there,” said Pero.
I went down and Marco was still digging.
- What are you doing here? We are dying of thirst, but you are still missing.
- Why should I climb back and forth here to get water? - says Marco. “Here I’ll dig up the entire well and move it upstairs.”
“You can’t,” Pero interrupted him, “others will need water too.”
Pero took the skin, filled it with water and carried it upstairs, with Marco following behind him.
Night came and they went to bed. Lyutida Bogdan and Marco covered themselves with cloaks, and Pero collapsed as he was and immediately began snoring. Lyutida Bogdan also fell asleep. Then Marco stood up, rolled the deck over to the place where he had previously been lying, and covered it with his cloak. He himself hid behind a tree and waited for what would happen.
Pero Medvedich woke up, stretched, stood up, found some block of wood and how he gave them each of this deck - one, two! - and then lay down again and began to snore.
In the morning, when everyone got up, they began to tell each other their dreams.
Lutida says:
- I saw such and such.
A Pero:
- I am so-and-so.
Marco says:
“And I dreamed that two fleas bit me.”
When Pero Medvedich heard this, he got scared and didn’t want to wander around the world with Marco anymore. So everyone went their separate ways.
