Alexander the Great was presented with magnificent glass vessels as a gift. He really liked them, but he ordered them to be broken. When asked why he gave such strange orders, Alexander replied:

“I know that in time these glass vessels would inevitably be broken, one by one, by the hands of my servants.” And every time after such a loss I would be sad and angry. So isn’t it better to eliminate the reason for many sorrows in the future with one strong grief now?
