A devout man knelt in the mosque, absorbed in prayer. And another believer caught the eye of his magnificent, skillfully woven shoes with curved toes. He already imagined how wonderful it would be if he, too, had such shoes. The step from thought to action is often much shorter than is usually thought. He came up behind the worshiper and whispered in his ear:
“You know that prayer does not reach the Lord’s ears if you pray with shoes on.”
The believer interrupted his prayer and just as quietly whispered in response:
“Even if my prayer is not answered, at least I will still have my shoes!”
