Someone decided that he would become a student of a perfect master, and went in search of one. For many years he visited sage after sage, listened to their speeches, talked with them and performed exercises. But there was always something he didn’t like or irritated about them.
After twenty years of wandering, he met a man whose every word and every action corresponded to his idea of a perfect master and a fully realized man. The traveler thought that he had met the one he had been looking for for so long, and addressed him with the following words:
“You seem like a perfect master to me.” If you truly are, my journey is over.
“People really call me by this name,” said the master.
“In that case, I ask you to accept me as your student.”
“You want only a perfect master to guide you,” he said. “Why shouldn’t I look only for the perfect student?”
