In the middle of the road we suddenly run into each other, not knowing who we ourselves are, not knowing who the other person is. Two lonely strangers on the road hold hands and think they love each other. They certainly need each other, but how can you know for sure whether there is love in this?

One woman arrived late at night in a small Midwestern town and there was no room available at the hotel.

“I’m sorry,” said the clerk, “but the last room we had was just occupied by an Italian.”

- What number? - the woman asked in despair. “Maybe I can somehow come to an agreement with him.”

The clerk told her the room number. The woman went upstairs and knocked on the doors. The Italian let her in.

“Look, Mister,” she said, “I don’t know you and you don’t know me, but I desperately need a place to stay for the night.” I won't bother you in any way, I promise, if you'll just let me use this little couch.

The Italian thought for a minute and said:

- Okay.

The woman curled up on the couch and the Italian returned to his bed. But the couch was very uncomfortable, and after a few minutes the woman tiptoed over to the bed and patted the Italian on the arm.

“Look, Mister,” she said, “I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but it’s impossible to sleep on this couch.” Can't I sleep here on the edge of the bed?

“Okay,” said the Italian, “use the edge of the bed.”

The woman lay down on the bed, but after a few minutes she felt very cold. She patted the Italian on the arm again.

“Listen, Mister,” she said, “I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but I’m very cold here.” Can I cover myself with your blanket?

“Okay,” said the Italian, “take cover.”

The woman climbed under the blanket, but the proximity of the male body excited her, and she felt some excitement. She patted the Italian again:

“Look, Mister,” she said, “I don’t know you and you don’t know me, but how about a little party?”

The Italian jumped out of bed in irritation.

“Listen, lady,” he yelled. - I don't know you, you don't know me. Who the hell do we invite to a party in the middle of the night?

But this is exactly what happens: “You don’t know me, I don’t know you.” It's just an accident. There are needs; people are lonely, they need someone to fill that loneliness. They call it love. They feign love because that is the only way to lure the other one. The other one also calls it love, because it is the only way to lure you. But who knows whether this is love or not? In fact, love is just a game.
