But she flew poorly, constantly sat down to rest and thereby delayed other birds in their flight. The birds, understandably, did not like this, and one autumn they did not take her with them to the south. The partridge remained to spend the winter here.
In the spring, when the birds returned, they saw that the partridge had not only become thin over the winter, but had even grown fat. And she became more elegant in her plumage, and put on warm camouflage. Seeing her treacherous friends, she sang:
Even though you have flown away,
Leaving me alone
But I haven’t disappeared,
I even got fat...
Since then, the partridge has been constantly wintering with us.
