One elderly, devout man prayed five times a day, while his business partner was never seen in church. On the day of his eightieth birthday, the old man turned to God with prayer:
- Oh God! Since childhood, I have never missed a single day without going to church in the morning; I prayed five times a day. I have not made a single action, not a single decision, important or trivial, without mentioning Your name. Now that I am old, I began to do twice as many pious deeds and pray to You incessantly, day and night. But at the same time he remained as poor as a church mouse. Look at my business partner. He drinks, gambles and, despite his advanced age, spends time in the company of girls of dubious behavior, and at the same time bathes in luxury! I don't think a single prayer left his lips. Lord, I am not asking You to punish him, that would not be Christian. But please answer me: why, why, why did you prepare such a sad fate for me, and rewarded him with wealth?
“Because,” God answered, “you are such an incredible bore!”
