Pan-gu (pan, “dish”, gu, “ancient”) is the creator of the Universe, the first ancestor, the first person on earth. At the beginning of time there was nothing but a huge egg that contained chaos and the giant Pan-gu. When the giant broke the shell and came out of the egg, chaos also broke out. Its lighter, purer and brighter parts (Yang) rose up and formed the sky, and the heavier, cloudy parts (Yin) sank down and became the earth. Pan-gu divided heaven and earth with his body, which grew 3 meters per day for 18 thousand years. After this period, the sky was far, far from the earth, and Pan-gu died. From his body the sun, moon and stars were formed.
Pan-gu's breath became wind and clouds, his voice became thunder, his left eye became the sun, his right eye became the moon, four limbs and five parts of the body became the four limits of the earth (the four cardinal points) and the five sacred mountains, blood became rivers, veins and veins became roads on the earth, flesh became soil in the fields, hair on the head and mustache became constellations, vegetation on the body became grass and trees, teeth and bones became gold and stones, bone marrow - pearls and jade, sweat - rain and dew. After Pan-gu's death, the parasites that lived on his body turned into people. According to other records, in ancient times clear weather was explained by Pan-gu’s good mood, and bad weather by bad weather (a manifestation of his anger).
Pan-gu was usually depicted with an ax and a chisel in his hands at the moment of separating the sky from the earth. Sometimes he was drawn with the sun in one hand and the moon in the other.
