Murgu the owl lived alone for a long time, far from others. He made many boomerangs, nullah-nullah clubs, spears and carpets from possum skins. Murgu was excellent at carving weapons using possum teeth and painting the skins with brightly colored designs, sewing them tightly together with possum sinew threaded through a needle made from a small emu leg bone. Murgu was proud of his work.

One night Balu the month came to the Murgu camp and said:

“Lend me one of your possum skin beddings.”

- No, I don’t lend my bedding.

“Then give me one.”

- No, I'm not giving them away.

Looking around, Baloo saw a beautifully made weapon and asked:

“Then, Murgu, give me some of your weapons.”

- No, I never give that to others. what he did himself, Again Balu said:

- The night is cold. Lend me some bedding.

“I said,” Murgu answered, “that I never lend my bedding.”

Balu said nothing more, went away, cut some bark and made dardur for himself. When the dardur was ready and Baloo settled in it, heavy rain began and continued continuously until the entire area was flooded with water.

Murgu drowned. His weapons floated around, and his bedding rotted in the water.
