One traveler, in search of accommodation for the night, looked into the nearest town, but was told that all the houses were occupied, except one. When the traveler asked what kind of house this was, he was told that it was a rich house, but after the night the owner brutally beat the guest. There was nothing to do and the wanderer went to the rich man. The owner met him, offered him the best room, a magnificent dinner, so that the maid could wash his things, etc. The traveler was very surprised, but accepted all the offers. In the morning, the guest was treated to breakfast and provided with food, clothing and other things needed for the journey. The traveler again accepted all this and, in fear that he would now be beaten, got ready and left the house. But contrary to expectations, he calmly left the house, the owner saw the guest off and he left. The traveler was very surprised, returned to the rich man and asked why he did not beat him.
“You see,” the owner answered, “I offered all the guests before you the same thing as you: a room, dinner, but they politely refused, saying that they didn’t need anything.” In the morning they didn’t have breakfast, didn’t accept gifts, and in the end it irritated me so much that I beat them.
Moral: When a person wants to please you, do not refuse, please this person and accept his gift.
