We set off by sea. We sailed for six days and finally reached an island. We entered a quiet bay. Eleven of my ships landed on the shore, and my companions pulled them onto the coastal sand. I placed my ship at the entrance to the bay. I climbed the cliff to look around. No herds or cultivated fields were visible anywhere, only smoke rose in the distance. I sent three of my companions to find out who lives on this island. They set off on their journey. Near a well, not far from the big city, my companions met a maiden of enormous stature; she took them to the city to the palace of her father Antiphatus, ruler of the Laestrygonians. In the palace they saw the wife of Antiphatus, as tall as a high mountain. She ordered to call her husband, who was at the meeting of elders. He came running, grabbed one of my companions, tore him to pieces and prepared dinner for himself from his meat. My companions took flight and ran to the ships. Antiphatus summoned the Laestrygonians. They ran to the seashore. Tearing off entire cliffs, they began to smash the ships. The sound of breaking gear and the screams of those being killed was heard. The Laestrygonians killed all my companions from eleven ships and, impaling them on stakes, took them to their city. With difficulty I escaped on my ship. Now out of twelve ships I only have one left.
