In ancient times, rain was a man - Ghaunu. His wife was the younger sister of the bird Ghagara. And so Ghagara decided to take his younger sister from her husband Ghauna and went after her to take her back to her parents.
And Ghaunu began to pursue his brother-in-law, and they saw him pass near them, behind the hill - the clouds swirled and disappeared.
Ghagara began to hurry his sister:
– We must go further, it’s still a long way to home! Ghaunu passed near them - clouds appeared and disappeared again.
Ghagara said to his younger sister:
- Well, go further, because you see, this is Ghauna!
And she walked on with a heavy burden - she carried her husband’s things. They were like water and pressed on her back, bending her to the ground, and became heavier.
Ghaunu passed them again, behind the hill, and they saw the clouds appear again and disappear.
Their house was already nearby.
Ghagara waited until his sister caught up with him and exclaimed:
- What kind of weight are you dragging with such difficulty?!
Hearing Ghagara talk about his things, Ghaunu became angry. He sneezed so that blood sprayed from his nostrils and threw lightning at Ghagar. But Ghagara, raising his hand, immediately parried the blow and threw lightning at Ghauna. And they began to throw lightning at each other.
Ghagara said to his sister:
- Don’t lag behind, walk next to me, you see, your husband doesn’t give us a break and throws lightning one after another. So Ghagara and Ghaunu, angry at each other, threw lightning at each other all the way. Ghaunu thought that he would drive away Ghagara with lightning, but Ghagara was not afraid of their fire and, in turn, drove away the husband of his younger sister Ghaunu. And his younger sister’s husband kept throwing lightning bolts at his brother-in-law.
And then Ghagara threw black lightning at the husband of his younger sister, and this deadly lightning drove away Ghauna. He fell and lay in agony, thunder rumbling.
And Ghagara tied a net around his head, as it was splitting from pain, and returned home. Ghagara rubbed the bushu and also rubbed the bushu on his younger sister. He lay down in his hut.
And Ghaunu lay where he was struck by lightning, thunder rumbling.
My grandmothers said: when heavy clouds accumulate in the east, piling up on each other like mountains, and lightning flashes, it is Ghagara and Ghaunu who are fighting each other.
