Zen master Sengai taught meditation to his students. One of them used to climb over the wall of the temple at night and go into the city to look for entertainment.
One day, while inspecting the bedroom, Sengai discovered the absence of this student, and also found a high stool, which he had propped up to climb over the wall.
Sengai moved the stool and stood in its place.
When the tramp returned, unaware that there was a Sengai instead of a stool, he placed his feet on the teacher's head and jumped to the ground.
When the student saw what he had done, he was stunned.
Sengai said, “It’s very cool early in the morning, don’t catch a cold.”
From then on, the student never left at night again.
