A peasant married a young and pretty girl, but for some reason he disliked his wife and decided to exchange with his neighbor, who also got married that year. The neighbor did not want to change and began to mock him. Then the peasant decided to divorce his wife, but he was told that this could not be done without the permission of the priest. Well, since it was in the power of the priest to give a divorce, the peasant ran to the monastery priest and asked him to allow him to either exchange his wife with someone or divorce her. The priest knew his wife and, sighing with envy, thought to himself: “Oh, he’s fed up, you dog!”
He said to the peasant:
- Would you like to switch with me? For your wife, I will give you a milk cow and a suckling calf to boot. I don't have a wife.
The abbot overheard this at the door and shouted:
- You are such slackers! What are you bargaining about? If I could, I would be ready to give away all the cows and oxen of the monastery.
