One king had two friends who were sentenced to death for some crime. Wanting to save them from death, the king resorted to the test of the “court of God”: he ordered that a rope be stretched over the river, from one bank to the other, and if the condemned walked along this rope without falling into the water, then they would be freed from execution.
The first of the convicts walked along the rope safely, and when it was the second’s turn, he shouted to his comrade:
“Tell me, my friend, how you managed to walk along the rope, and I will do the same.”
He replied:
- I don’t know how to do this. I only know one thing: when I leaned in one direction while walking along the rope, I instantly leaned in the opposite direction. This means we need to balance.
