“You know what Christ teaches us in the Gospel.” This is enough for you.
But since they continued to insist that he give them some instruction, he said to them:
“Follow what the Savior commanded: “If they hit you on your right cheek, turn your left.”
They replied that they did not have enough strength to do so.
“If you cannot do this,” he continued, “then at least do not repay evil for evil.”
They declared that this too was beyond their strength. Then the monk, turning to his disciple, said to him:
- Go, prepare them something to eat: I see that they are very weak.
And he told them:
- If you cannot do anything I say, then what else can I tell you? You are more in need of prayers to help your weakness than of any advice.
