Once upon a time there lived a Sami Kondraty. In the autumn he hunted fish on Vanozero. One day he was walking around Chakshevaraka and found a large deep hole. He thought: “That’s right, a naked man lives here.” He untied his kangas and took them off his feet. He tied the frills together and lowered one end into the pit, and tied the other to the cangs, which he left by the pit.

He tied another rope to the cange and went not very far to the side. First, while still at the pit, he said several times: “I’m twisting and turning and I’ll tie the knot.” After a while, a naked man came out of the pit along the frills and began to put on the kanga. At that time, Kondraty jumped out and grabbed him. He began to ask to be released.

Kondraty began to ask for ransom. He promised and gave the right word that he would come out of the pit again and bring a ransom. Kondraty let him go. He soon came out and brought him a plate full of silver money. Saam took it and said: “Not enough.” The naked man brought him the same amount another time. Kondraty took it again and said: “Not enough.”

The naked man said nothing more, but only shook his head and left for the third time. Soon he brought him a knife and fork and gave them to him. When Kondraty took it, he said: “You won’t have this wealth for long, why did you take so much? Soon your family will become poor." Having said this, he went back. Kondraty himself was rich, but his family gradually became poorer and poorer.
