My heart burns like fire

My heart burns like fire

Sen Saku, the first Zen teacher in America, said: “My heart is burning: like fire, my eyes are cold like dead ashes.” He created rules that he followed throughout his life.

Here they are:

In the morning, before getting dressed, burn incense and meditate.

Go to bed at a certain hour.

Eat meals at regular intervals.

Eat in moderation and never get enough.

Be alone with yourself the same as when you are with guests.

Be the same with guests as you are alone with yourself.

Watch what you say and follow through on everything you say.

If a favorable opportunity comes, don't let it pass you by; Also, think twice before you act.

Don't regret the past. Look to the future.

May you have the fearlessness of a hero and the loving heart of a child.

When left alone to sleep, sleep as if it were your last sleep.

When you wake up, immediately leave your bed, as if you were leaving a pair of old shoes.
