Once upon a time there lived a monkey in the Teacher's garden. And since monkeys are curious people, she became interested in the Teacher. She saw that the Teacher was sitting in silence, doing nothing, and slowly began to approach him. What this man did was a mystery. Of course, for the monkey, the most mysterious thing was that someone was sitting quietly, doing nothing.
Gradually the monkey began to get closer to the Teacher to observe him. The closer I came, the more surprised I was. Not only was the man himself silent, but the space around him was stunningly quiet. Even the monkey could feel the vibration when he got closer.
She fell in love with this man, and watching him became one of her favorite pastimes. Whenever she had time and the Master was sitting in the garden, she would come and sit next to him. One day she asked the Teacher:
- What are you doing? Please tell me. I surrender to you, accept me as a disciple.
The teacher looked at the monkey, felt the greatest compassion for it and said:
- I don't do anything. You can do this too, because it is non-action. Sit quietly - spring will come, and the grass will grow on its own. Just sit and be silent. When the right moment comes, you will suddenly be filled with extraordinary joy and peace and God. You don't have to do anything. Every action in you is indignation. It creates ripples, it creates waves. And when your mind is agitated, God cannot enter. God enters when the mind is a calm surface, when everything is quiet and windless. He enters through the door of silence, but this is possible only when you are a non-doer. So can you do it, can you try?
The monkey shook his head. She said:
- This is impossible. I thought there was something here that I could do, but it's impossible. If you told me to get the moon, I could bring it. If you told me to move the Himalayas, I could do it. If you told me to turn back the waters of the Ganges, I could do it. After all, it is known that in the old days other monkeys did this, for example, Hanuman. I am a monkey, I have a reserve of strength, I can do this too. But sitting quietly and doing nothing is impossible. It's against my nature, it will drive me crazy. If God comes through silence, then God is not for me and I am not for God.
