Mongoose had a hole at the foot of a tall tree. And in the hollow of this tree lived a Rat.
When the Mongoose and the Rat were sitting in their holes, the Turtle Dove flew in, sat on a branch and began to sing loudly, since she could not do anything else.
The Mongoose, fearing that the loud song of the Turtle Dove would attract the attention of some hunter and that he would discover her hole, quietly asked the Rat to climb up the trunk and calm the Dove. Otherwise, at her voice, what good, a hunter will appear.
But the Rat replied that the Turtle Dove sat very high and was difficult to reach. Yes, even if she tells the Turtle Dove to shut up, will the bird listen?
And indeed, a hunter appeared in response to the loud singing. Seeing a bird on a branch, he shot an arrow at it, and the Turtle Dove fell straight into the hollow in which the Rat was sitting. The rat jumped out of the hollow with fear and ran into the hole to the Mongoose. But Mongoose angrily told her:
- No, I won’t let you in! Didn’t I ask you to persuade the stupid bird to shut up, because its loud singing could destroy us? See what your carelessness has led to! This is how many often suffer because of the carelessness of one.
