Ibrahim ben Adam was sitting in a forest clearing. Two wandering dervishes approached him. The master greeted them and they began to talk.
In the evening the master invited them to dinner. A table with delicious food immediately appeared.
- How long have you been a dervish? - asked one of the travelers.
“Two years,” answered Ibrahim.
“I’ve been walking along the Path for thirty years, but I can’t do this,” said the traveler. Suddenly a stranger in green sat down at the table. The Dervishes guessed that it was Khidr, the immortal guide of all Sufis. They were waiting for him to give them some wisdom. Getting up, Khidr said:
—What did you sacrifice to follow the Path? They just gave up ordinary life. You are surprised at Ibrahim, but he was a powerful king and in order to become a Sufi, he threw away the possessions of the Balkh Sultanate. That is why he was ahead of you on the Path. You boasted of poverty, this was your reward. And he never took any payment for his sacrifice.
The next moment Khidr disappeared.
