In ancient times there were messengers who carried messages.

Once two such messengers were walking through the forest when it was already getting dark. In search of accommodation for the night, they came to an unfinished house. Climbing into the attic, they found enough straw there and buried themselves in it to sleep.

And at midnight, evil spirits - Shiba - came into the house.

First the eagle owls arrived, then the cats and foxes came, and the last to enter were some men, women and children, among them various guitarists and violinists.

One of these men came carrying a dead man on his back, whom he carried upside down and upside down. Entering the house, he threw it to the ground with a crash. Others brought pots to boil the dead man.

So, while some were busy cutting up the corpse, others lit a large fire. It had a strange fire, greenish-blue in color. The owl fanned it with his wings, while the fox guarded outside so that no one would approach them.

Meanwhile, two messengers were present, hiding in the straw in the attic.

Among the Shiba there was one old woman who sensed strangers and ordered them to be searched everywhere, but no one was found. The old woman insisted that they look further in the attic. The people hiding in the straw were afraid that they would be discovered. In the face of danger of being overtaken, one of them took out a small package containing a powder made from silver tobacco and leeks.

Meanwhile, the Shibas prepared to eat; The old woman said that they should leave her liver and spleen, since she no longer had teeth, and she again began to order that the attic be searched.

Suddenly, people came out of their shelter, throwing powder everywhere and causing the Shiba to faint. They quickly descended from the attic and, armed with their machetes, cut the shibas into pieces and destroyed everything in their path.

They ran into the forest, pursued by foxes and the remaining shiba, until they came across a pile of maize, inside which they hid. There they were protected during the day by white maize and yellow maize, but the black maize repelled them, and this caused many grains to fall to the ground.

When the owner of the pile arrived, cutting through the thicket with his machete, he found scattered maize, and his dog barked, sensing the presence of two people. The owner began to look for them among the heap, but could not see them because the maize protected them until they decided to come out and tell about their ordeal.

And when they came home, one of them fell ill from the fear he experienced and died.
