A delegation from Syria, consisting of Jews, Christians, Muslim dervishes, and those whose religion was unknown, made a dangerous journey through Iraq to Turkestan, where they visited the royal palace of Ahmad Yasawi, the Sufi Master of the Age.
They were met by the Master at the gates of the city and honored with all kinds of gifts and all kinds of signs of respect. In the apartments assigned to them there were furs and carpets, large and small curiosities. And people were allocated to serve them.
On Tuesday evening, when it was time for the special exercises, the guests were eager to be invited to Master Yasawi's tekkiya. But when those who arrived were called to leave their business and enter the tekkiya, only four of the eighty-two pilgrims were allowed to enter. Their elders were angry and demanded to know the reasons for this preference, telling Yasawi's representative:
“The master granted us robes of honor, we were treated and received royally. How can we now not be allowed in, since we have been waiting for this all our lives?
The representative said:
- You did not feel disadvantaged when you accepted gifts, you feel this only when you are convinced that you were denied something. This is child behavior. Tekkia is a treasury of the riches of Other Worlds. Only a child demands everything at once, running into a shop full of sweets. Mature people are happy when their representatives are allowed to pick up and bring a portion for each of them.
