A man wanted to sell a rough carpet and began offering it right on the street.

The first passerby said:

— This is a rough carpet, and very worn.

And I bought it cheap.

Then the buyer himself put this carpet up for sale and said to one passerby:

“Here is a carpet, soft as silk, there is no equal in the whole world.”

A Sufi passing by witnessed the purchase and attempted sale of the same carpet under two different descriptions. The Sufi said to the seller:

- Listen, carpet seller, place me in your magic box, capable of turning a rough carpet into an elegant one, and also, perhaps, nothing into a precious stone!
