A lump of snow lay on the top of a rock located at the extreme height of the highest mountain. He began to think and tell himself this:
“Now, shouldn’t I be considered arrogant and proud because I, a small lump of snow, am on such a high place, and is it acceptable that such a great amount of snow, which I can see from here, lies below me?” Truly, my insignificant fraction does not deserve this height, of which what the sun did yesterday to my peers, who were so quickly melted by it, serves as a good lesson to me. And this happened because they took a higher place than was fitting for them. I want to escape from the wrath of the sun and humiliate myself and find a place corresponding to my poor significance.
And so he rushed down and began to descend, rolling from high slopes on top of other snow; but the lower he looked for a place for himself, the more his size grew - to such an extent that when he finished his run, on the hill lay hardly less of his mass than the hill itself that supported him; and he was the last one to be melted by the sun that summer.
It is said for those who are humble: they will be exalted.
