The guy got married. He took a girl as his wife not from his village, but from a distant village. They lived, you never know, the wife said to her husband:
“You should go, Ivanka, to visit my mother.”
Ivanka harnessed the horse and rode off.
His mother-in-law greeted him well. She put potatoes on the table, salted mushrooms, and fish pies. And then she poured something into the bowl that he had never eaten. It is both sour and sweet, not thick, not liquid, not cold, not hot. Delicious! I would eat and eat! Ivanka ate two bowls. And he asks his mother-in-law:
- What did you cook? - It’s oatmeal jelly! Don’t you really know? - I don’t know! And my Paraska knows how to cook it? - Why shouldn’t she be able to? He can!
Ivanka stayed a little longer with his mother-in-law and went home. He drove and kept repeating: “Jewel, jelly, jelly...”
And there’s a passerby coming towards you. They said hello. As soon as Ivanka said “good afternoon,” the word flew out of his head. He just can't remember!
Ivanka scratched the back of his head and turned back to his mother-in-law. It’s good that he didn’t move far. He arrived and asked:
- What is the name of the food you treated me to? - Kissel, oatmeal jelly! Ivanka took off his hat and said into it three times: “Kissel! Kissel! Kissel!” Then he put on his hat and said: “Now I won’t forget!”
I drove halfway and met the master. He turned his horse right into a puddle to give way to the master, and took off his hat as usual. Yes, how he screams:
- Oh, I lost it! Oh, I lost it! - What did you lose? - asks the master.
And Ivanka almost cries:
“I’ve lost such a thing that no amount of money can buy it!” “Let’s look for it together,” says the master, “I’ll help you!”
They rolled up their sleeves and began to look for the loss in the puddle. The master carefully searches so as not to get his hands dirty. And Ivanka has his hands in the puddle up to his elbows and is rummaging around the bottom.
- What are you doing? - says the master. - Is that how you’ll find it? Mixed all the dirt. Not a puddle, but jelly!
Ivanka will scream:
- Thank you, master! You found my loss!
He jumped onto the cart and whipped the horse. The master remained on the road with his arms outstretched. Then he shook his head and drove on.
And Ivanka is already approaching the house. His wife ran out to open the gate, and he shouted to her from the cart:
- Paraska! Do you know how to cook jelly? - I can! - So run and cook quickly! Otherwise I’ll forget what it’s called again.
Paraska made some jelly, called the guests, and treated everyone. Since then, in that village they learned to cook jelly.
