The stingy man heard that there was a man even more stingy than him, and went to find out what he was like.

Late at night he reached his house and saw: the stingy man had screwed on the wick of a kerosene lamp and, in the poor light, was checking his daily consumption, writing something and crossing it out. It turned out that he was missing one penny and he did not know what he spent it on.

The miser knocked on the door. The owner opened it and invited the guest into the house, and he began to count again.

The stingy one asked the owner: “Why did you screw the lamp wick on like that?” “Otherwise I’ll burn a lot of kerosene.”

The guest was surprised at the owner’s stinginess and, taking off his pants, sat down on the ottoman.

Dawn has arrived. The owner checked everything. He raised his head and noticed that the guest was without pants. - Why did you take off your pants? - What about it? If I sit in them they will wear out.

The owner was amazed by this and said: “Yes!” You are stingier than me. I save kerosene in the lamp, and you are even afraid to sit down again so as not to wear out your pants.
