One dark night, one Sufi, walking along the road, heard a cry for help coming from the bottom of an abandoned dry well.

- Hey, what happened? - the Sufi shouted, looking into the well.

“You see, I’m a linguist,” answered the voice. “Unable to find my way in the darkness, I, unfortunately, fell into this deep hole and now I can’t get out of here.

“Hold on, friend, just let me get a ladder and a rope,” answered the Sufi.

“Wait a minute,” the linguist shouted, “you express yourself illiterately, and besides, your pronunciation is no good.”

“Well, if words are more important to you than their meaning, it would be better for you to stay where you are now until I learn to speak correctly,” the Sufi answered and went his way.
