Life, not logic

Life, not logic

One day the monk Lin-chi surprised everyone. When his teacher died, Ling-chi burst into tears. He stood and tears flowed down his cheeks. His friends were perplexed:

- What are you doing? There are so many people gathered here, and they are all shocked by your behavior. Their thoughts are written on their faces: “Incredible! This simply cannot be! Ling-chi is crying! We thought he was completely unattached and his spirit was free. And now he's crying! He himself taught us that the soul is immortal, that only the body dies; that the body is a material shell that wears out and returns to the earth. Why is he crying today? And we, your friends, also cannot understand you. You taught that non-attachment is the key. Why are you attached to your teacher?

To this Lin-chi replied:

— Your question is logical. But what should I do? Tears flow and I cry. It was a revelation to me that I was crying. I'm surprised myself. But what can I do? This is how life manifests itself in me. And I will not suppress its manifestations. I have always accepted it entirely.
