The rich man once decided to throw a dinner party for his friends. He called his faithful servant and ordered him to buy everything necessary for an exquisite treat.
The servant went to the market and bought some tongues. He prepared various dishes from them.
When the friends gathered at the dinner table and tasted the prepared dishes, they at first found them very tasty. But then these dishes began to become boring for the guests, since they were prepared from the same languages.
The owner got angry with his servant and said to him:
“Didn’t I order you to buy good and delicious treats?” Why did you buy only tongues?
The servant replied:
“Oh my lord, I have never seen anything more pleasant in my life than language.” Language connects us with people, it is the key to knowledge, it is an instrument of truth and wisdom, with its help people learn, they praise God.
Another time, while gathering friends for dinner, the master ordered his servant to buy something vile and disgusting. And the servant went and again bought only tongues.
When the guests gathered, tasted the food and discovered that they were all made from tongues, the owner became very angry. He wanted to severely punish the servant for disobedience. But the servant said:
- Don't be angry, my lord! There is nothing more vile and disgusting in the world than language. Isn't it the cause of all strife and civil strife? He is the source of robbery, an instrument of lies and sin. And is it not with the help of the tongue that we profane the name of God?
When everyone present heard this, they said:
“Truly, your servant could compete in an argument with philosophers!”
