One day on a holiday, godfather Matei gathered to visit his friend, godfather Jiri. Not far from his godfather's house, Jiri met his little son.
- What is your father doing? - asks.
“Yes, I was just getting ready to have lunch, and when I saw that you were going behind the threshing floors, I got up from the table and ordered all the food to be cleared away.”
- Why so?
“Father says that you would eat a lot from us, so it’s better to let mom hide everything.”
- And where did she hide everything?
- Goose for the stove, ham for the stove, sausages and cabbage for the shelf, pies for the cupboard, and two cans of beer for the bench.
Godfather Matei did not question the boy any more, grinned and went his way.
“Great, godfather,” Jiri greeted him when the guest stepped over the threshold. “It’s a pity that you didn’t come a minute earlier: you could have had lunch with us.” And we have just left the table. And, as luck would have it, today we have nothing left from lunch. I don’t know what to treat you with.
“There’s no way I could have come earlier, dear godfather.” I was delayed on the way. You see, a miracle happened to me on the way.
- What is it?
“I’m walking behind the threshing floors and I see a huge snake crawling in the grass.” Well, I think we should kill him. He killed it, looked later - and what an amazing snake he caught! The head is huge, no smaller than the ham you have on the stove. It’s thick, like the goose you have hidden in your stove, and long, like the sausages rolled up on that pole over there. And what do you think: her meat turned out to be white-white. Exactly like the butter pies locked in your cupboard. And as much blood flowed out of that snake as there was beer in the two jugs that were standing there under the bench.
Well, Matei found out everything!
Godfather Jiri felt ashamed of his greed. He ordered his wife to put everything on the table and treat the guest.
