We have a little, little mouse, her name is Khun-kyzy, which means “Sunny Girl” in Russian. She lives by the lake, dives and swims well in the water.
Once Khun-kyzy met a bear. The bear looked down at her and said:
– Such a small creature will be born! As soon as you live, what does your soul contain? What can you do?..
The little mouse was not confused and was not at all afraid of the beast. Answers:
- I can do everything. If you want, we’ll try our best to see who can swim across this lake faster.
The bear, of course, couldn’t refuse: it’s funny.
- Let's! - he says.
Both rush into the water at the same time. Competition, that is. The little mouse swam and swam and soon found itself on the other side. And the bear, heavy, heavy as a stone, floundered in the water and almost drowned. Went back to shore. He got angry and ran around the bank to the other side. He thinks: “How is it possible, a tiny mouse swam across the lake, but I, so healthy, couldn’t.” The mouse sits and laughs. Well, that was not enough. The bear became even more angry. He muttered:
“I don’t even want to look at you,” and ran away out of shame and anger into the forest.
The Tofalars say: of all the animals and rodents, the most agile is the mouse. And yet - arrogance and self-confidence are not from the mind.
