This is what happened after the flood, when Kayurukre and Kame went along the mountain paths.
On the very first night of their journey, the Kayurukre lit a fire and made jaguars from the ashes and coal and said to them:
- You will devour people and forest animals!
And the jaguars ran away.
There was very little coal, so they made tapirs from ashes and told them: “You will eat game!” But tapirs have poor hearing; They didn’t hear and asked what they should eat. Kayurukra, who were already making other animals, said angrily:
- You will eat leaves and tree branches!
This time the tapirs heard and went their own way. That's why they only eat leaves, tree branches and fruits.
The next animal, the Kayurukre, did not have time to attach a tongue, teeth and claws: the day began, and during the day the Kayurukre could not do this work; and so they hastily inserted a thin twig into the animals’ mouths and said:
- Since you don’t have a tongue, you will eat ants! This is why the anteater is an imperfect animal. The next night the Kayurukre created many other animals; They also created bees that give people honey.
And the Kame created other animals so that there would be a struggle for life between them. This is how pumas, poisonous snakes and wasps that do not produce honey were born.
Having finished this matter, Kayurukre and Kame returned to the Kaingangs.
