Justice and justice

Two friends walking through the forest found two bales of fabric. One of them grabbed them and refused to share.

- How so? - the deprived one was indignant, we both saw this find, which means it’s fair to divide it into two equal parts: a bale for you and a bale for me.

But the friend refused to follow the admonitions, saying that all the fabric belonged only to him and he was not going to share it with anyone. Then the one who found himself empty-handed suggested going to court.

Arriving in the city, they came to the judge. The deprived one (the plaintiff) told the circumstances of what happened, demanding a fair decision - to divide the fabric in half. The defendant confirmed the circumstances of the find, but stated that he lays claim to everything.

The judge asked the plaintiff:

— Did I understand correctly that you are claiming one bale, and agree to leave the second to the defendant?

“Yes,” answered the plaintiff.

The judge continued:

“So there is only one bale in dispute here.” And since you both claim it, I decide to divide it in half between you.

Thus justice was done.
