The nymph Karna was famous for her beauty. Many young men burned with ardent love for her. But she only loved hunting. All day long Karna chased wild animals, hitting them with spears or laying nets. When some too ardent young man really annoyed her, she feignedly agreed to give in to his desires, but said at the same time that it was impossible to make love in the light of the sun, and suggested that this young man go to the cave, and she would supposedly follow him. Believing her, the lover made his way deep into the dark cave, while Karna hid in the dense bushes, where it was impossible to find her.
I saw Karna and Janus and also became inflamed with passion for her. He began to beg the nymph to share his love. Karna decided to do the same with him as with the others. She ordered Janus to find a remote cave, and she decided to hide. But the nymph did not know that two-faced Janus looked both forward and backward. And he saw Karna hiding in his shelter. Laughing, Janus easily overtook the nymph. And she had to give in to the two-faced god. For this, Janus made Karna the goddess of door hinges and gave her a prickly white flower to ward off all kinds of troubles and misfortunes from houses and doors.
