Jackal and Hare

Spring has come. The earth was covered with greenery and flowers, the trees were dressed with delicate foliage, and offspring were born in every animal family.

One day the Jackal came to the Hare from Leo’s retinue and had the following conversation:

- All your fellow tribesmen already have bunnies. Happy mothers take their children in the moonlight to tumble in the grass, pluck thyme or juicy melon stems. You alone remain here to serve as a pillow for the king of beasts.

The hare did not answer the Jackal, she just sighed heavily. His words affected her like poison. She pondered for several days, and then plucked up courage and went to Leo.

- O king of beasts, release me to freedom! - the hare begged, trembling with fear.

The Lion at first gently persuaded the Hare to stay, then he threatened, but in vain. The hare continued to ask for freedom. Then the Lion, who had lost patience, killed her with one blow of his paw.

- Go and bury this creature! - the Lion ordered the Jackal. The jackal took the hare to the same ravine, ate the meat, and buried the skin. “Soon, soon the old days will return!” - he thought joyfully.
