I heard about one person. He was very old. He went out for a morning walk, and at that time some woman was waking up her son in her hut. The old man walked along the road while she said: “It’s time to get up, it’s already morning!” The night is already over!
The old man heard these words. It wasn’t even the Diamond Sutra, it was just the words of a woman: “Get up! Stop sleeping! You've already slept a lot. The night is over. The sun has risen, it’s already morning.” He must have been in a receptive state of mind, and these words struck him like an arrow into his heart: “It is already morning, and you have slept a lot, and the night is already over.” He never returned home again.
He left the city, sat in the temple and began to meditate. People recognized him, and his family rushed there:
- What are you doing here?
He said:
- It’s already morning! It's no longer night and I've already slept enough. Forgive me, leave me alone. I have to wake up. Death is coming - I must wake up.
And whenever he passed by that woman's door, he bowed to that door. This was his temple, and that woman was his master. He had never seen her, and that woman was an ordinary woman.
Sometimes just a few words, even those spoken by ordinary people, can fall on the prepared soil of the heart and bring with them great transformation.
