Indra, Chur and Kryshen

Dyi was dissatisfied with Svarog's victory. And Dyy decided to repay for his humiliation.

He sent a black cloud to the Black Stone - to that Boulder, where for several centuries his son Indra had stood, grown waist-deep into Mother Earth.

From the cloud sent by Dym, the snake Peraskei descended. She entwined rings around Indra, and Dy shot Perun at his son. And Indra woke up from his sleep and took possession of Peraskea, and then the earth and the sky shook.

And Indra went to heavenly Svarga to repay the humiliation of the Dyev tribe.

He said this:

“I’ll go to the fuel stone, and to that Alatyr mountain.” I’ll pluck out the Eagle’s feathers and let him fly through the clouds! And I will get the apples of Iria: whoever bites off the golden apple will receive eternal youth and gain power over the entire Universe!

The powerful Nedra saddled the unicorn horse and rode to Alatyr Mountain. Kadra's horse was magical, the hair on it was three cubits long, the tail and mane went down to the very ground, and the horse had a long and sharp horn in its forehead.

Indrik passed all the outposts on the way to Alatyr Mountain. With the help of a magical unicorn horse, he easily overcame the pushing mountains, galloped away from pecking birds, and jumped over the Three-Headed Serpent - he didn’t even have time to straighten his trunk.

And Indra came to the Irian Garden. And he found Svarog and Karma, who glorified God in the temple of the Most High.

- Why did you come to us, Indra? - the gods asked the unexpected guest.

And he answered:

“I heard that a magic apple tree grew in the Irian garden, and on that apple tree were golden apples.” And the young Eagle - gray feathers - sits on this apple tree and pecks at the golden apples. I want to taste those apples and pluck feathers from the Eagle!

And when the gods left the temple, Indrik, looking around, was surprised that Svarga turned out to be poorer than Inderia. And the temples here are wooden, and the roads are strewn with simple stones, but in Inderia the temples are made of marble, and the roads are strewn with gold and precious stones.

Then the wise Karma remarked to Indra:

The path strewn with red gold will lead those who walk away from the Rule. The same stones that are in bright Iria are more precious than gems!

And Svarog said:

- You love to boast of wealth! You love clothes and gold, just like your brother Churila Dyevich. You compare your wealth with Churila. You and Churila go to the pole. There, change colored dresses with him - again and again three years old.

The sons of Dy liked this proposal so much that they went to a clean pole and began to change dresses there, boasting to each other. And so they dressed up for three whole years, and then returned to Iriy again.

Then Indra remembered that he had not come to show off his outfits, but to conquer Svarga. He then began to play with the whip and began to move it around his magic buttons. And from those buttons songbirds flew, terrible animals ran out, and after them came the Serpent Gorynych. And then a voice came from the Alatyr Stone:

Oh, you are mighty Indra! Calm down, calm down the singing birds and call to all the prowling animals! There is nothing to do - Indra resigned.

And Churila Dyevich, seeing how his brother surprised everyone, decided not to give in either, and said:

- We will fight against a great bet. We will jump over Currant. That river Currant is fiery, and it boils and burns with fire! Whoever jumps over will live. The one who fails will burn.

Indra and Churila began to jump over Currant. The magic unicorn horse easily carried Indra across the river, but Churila could only jump to the middle. Indra immediately jumped back and managed to grab his brother by the curls. So Indra went to Iriy, holding Churila by the hair.

And Indra approached Iriy like a black cloud, sending thunder and rolling thunderstorms. And he cried out:

- Let Svarga be flooded!

And streams flowed from the clouds, and endless rain fell. The drops fell like sharp arrows. And the water covered the valley, and it rose to the very mountains. And then Cow Zemun and her daughters appeared in the temple of the Most High and prayed:

- O mighty son of Vyshny, Kryshen! Protect us from Indra's wrath!

And then the Most High Roof raised Alatyr over the Irian Garden. And he sheltered everyone with Mount Alatyr from the thunderstorm and wrath of Indra.

Seeing this great miracle, Indra was amazed, fell on his face before Alytyr, and his crown faded. And he said: “You are higher than everyone else, son of the Vyshny - Kryshen!” You are the Son in the Great Triglav. I considered myself superior to everyone, but the Lord brought me to my senses.

Indra is mentioned in the “Book of Veles” as another Perunets, a god who arranges battles, an expert in the Vedas, a god of swords and a defender of Rus'.

“Hallowed be the name of Indra! He is the god of our swords. The God who knows the Vedas. So let us sing his power!” (Gen. 1, 3:1). “The forefathers... went to our lands. And there we composed our songs about Indra and Valu. And we became believers...” (Trojan I, 2:4).

“And so Magura sings his songs for the battle. And this Bird came from Indra, for Indra was and will remain forever the same Indra who always fights with Perunam. "(Trojan I, 2:11)

“And then Indra came to us so that we would retain our strength in battle and become strong, so that our knights would prevail, for our strength is divine, and we would not be defeated on the field.” (Trojan II, 2:8) “And the son of Light Indra drew us from Darkness” (Trojan II, 4:8) “And we asked in Yasuni, and Indra followed us, as he followed our fathers to Rome in Trojan's land." (Bus III, 6:3)

In Slavic folklore, he is a demon, Indrik the Beast (in the "Pigeon Book" and in the ballad about Indrik - or even about Indra the Beast). This attitude towards Indra in Southern Rus' is due to both deep spiritual experience and the influence of Zoroastrianism, where Indra is also a demon.

We have Indrik, a beast, the father of all beasts,

He walks through the dungeon,

The rivers let the icy deposits pass by,

Wherever he wants to go in the dungeon,

Like the Sun in the sky.
