Every day at noon our teacher usually dozed off. We children asked him why he did this, and he answered:
“I’m going to the land of dreams to meet the old sages there, just like Confucius did.” When Confucius slept, he saw ancient sages in his dreams and later told his students about them.
One day it was a very hot day, so some of us dozed off. Our teacher scolded us.
“We went to the land of dreams to meet the ancient sages, as Confucius did,” we explained.
- What did the sages tell you? - the teacher demanded.
One of us replied:
“We went to the land of dreams and met wise men there. We asked them if our teacher comes here every day at noon, but they replied that they had never seen such a person.
